The company
Too Good To Go is a company that was founded in 2015. The business principle is based on a mobile app that connects customers with restaurants and shops that have unsold, surplus food and sells it at a discounted price to self-pickers. This way, restaurants, cafés, supermarkets and hotels do not have to dispose of food that is still good as food waste. Economic benefits for the partner traders include revenue management and advertising. Interested parties in turn save up to 50% of the purchase price and thus also make a contribution against food waste.

The concept
Partner shops, such as grocery shops and restaurants, can offer so-called "Magic Bags". The shops put together food in a surprise bag at a reduced price that can soon no longer be offered because of the best-before date or leftover portions from lunch, for example. Some retailers offer different categories of Magic Bags, for example a vegan surprise bag, specially baked goods or seasonal items, such as Christmas biscuits left in the warehouse. Users of the app can see which businesses in their area are currently offering surprise bags, enter their details and pay directly through the app. During the designated pick-up time, users go to the business in person, show their reservation in the app and pick up the food.[24] Users do not know beforehand what food they will get.
